When the business environment changes, there are a lot of pressures on organizations to adapt and respond. These pressures create a lot of anxiety and fear. Even though we know that these pressures exist, how we respond to them can make or break an organization. Businesses must balance the need to adapt with the need to be the best in their field.
In our business, we are all about the adaptation. However, it’s not enough to adapt to the environment and create a new company. We have to be the best at what we do. It’s a matter of having the right people in the right place at the right time.
This is where we all start to lose sight of our focus. We are constantly measuring ourselves against the idea of “good enough.” Its good enough because we don’t know why things work the way they do. We can only try and recreate the environment to get it to work the way we want it to. But, unless we are constantly asking ourselves “What could go wrong?” we never look for the answer because we never need to.
We constantly ask ourselves what could go wrong and make it work, but this is a false balance. Its a matter of looking outside ourselves and asking what we can do to create a different outcome. We can do this by making a few changes to our own work environment. For example, I recently asked my boss to replace the way I work. Instead of doing things on my own, I ask him to watch me so that I can see how things are done.
This is a perfect example of what I’m talking about. If your boss doesn’t notice you at all, and instead takes his work seriously, then your work environment is much better for you. Instead of doing things on your own, you can be a part of the process. This can be done by providing a safe space, allowing people to help you, and giving you time and space to yourself.
If you take the time to create a great work environment, you will be rewarded by your boss. If your boss doesn’t take the time to take care of you and your teammates because he keeps your work space and office very clean, then your work environment will be much worse for you.
Companies such as Microsoft, Sony, and Apple have all made it a priority to create good work environments. Yet none of them have made it a priority to provide a space for employees to be themselves. These companies create work environments that are only for the people who are already successful and therefore are under tremendous pressure to produce the perfect result every time. Many employees feel they are being held back because they have no real say in what they are producing.
This is something I’ve noticed as a developer during my time in the tech industry. For years, I’ve noticed that the majority of the developers in my company are focused on being successful and creating the perfect product. They are constantly pushing themselves to get better at new technologies and at their job. But it’s not until they have to deal with the other end of the spectrum of employees that I really start to realize what they’re going through.
The other end of the spectrum is the worst. The employees who are stressed out and constantly searching for ways to increase their productivity. They are constantly making changes so that they can be successful. These employees are constantly looking for ways to save more money, improve their performance, and increase their productivity. They are constantly complaining about their jobs to friends, colleagues, and even their family members.
It’s true, the worst employees have high stress. But what they really need is a good manager who understands how their work is done and can help them create a healthy, satisfying work culture.
